Edward W. Cotney is the Founder and Principal of EdCotney.com, Inc. and the author of Tax Secrets Made Simple, The Business Owners Guide to Income Tax Freedom, and The Business Owners Guide to Selling Your Business Tax Smart.
Ed earned degrees in Physiology and Aviation Management while serving twenty years on active duty in the United States Air Force. Following his retirement in 1998, he transitioned into the tax planning profession, where he developed expertise as a Family Wealth Counselor specializing in advanced tax, charitable, wealth transfer, and business exit planning.
Over the past two decades, Ed has worked with business owners, families, and their advisors to evaluate tax-efficient strategies for selling closely held businesses and highly appreciated assets. His extensive experience with charitable planning techniques—including charitable remainder trusts, pooled income funds, donor-advised funds, private foundations, and other philanthropic structures—has given him a comprehensive understanding of the complex tax laws governing charitable giving and wealth preservation.
