Jeffrey R. Matsen, JD

Jeffrey R. Matsen is one of the leading estate planning and business transactional attorneys in Southern California and throughout the United States. He graduated Cum Laude with a BA degree from BYU in 1964 and received his law degree with honors (Order of the Coif) from the UCLA School of Law in 1967. After serving a three-year tour of duty in the United States Marine Corps as Judge Advocate with the rank of Captain, Jeff has provided a wide range of clients with the highest level of legal services for over 35 years.

As founder and managing partner of Wealth Strategies Counsel, Matsen is entirely dedicated to providing his clients with the quality, professionalism and integrity they deserve. “We never forget that we are here to help our clients and fulfill their legal needs,” says Matsen. “To accomplish this, we are responsive, accessible and follow through on all of our promises. They provide estate planning services including the preparation of Living Trusts, Wills and other related estate planning documents, probate administration, and the preparation of estate tax returns and necessary accompanying documentation.

Matsen is also well versed in the areas of international law and asset protection law. His knowledge of international law, and close ties with respected attorneys, financial advisors and certified public accountants across the globe, provides our clients with access to experienced and ethical professionals. In addition, Jeff assists real estate investors and developers with acquisitions, sales and projects.

Tim L. Voorhees, JD, MBA

Tim has focused on zero-tax planning since beginning his career in 1978. He has helped thousands of clients integrate charitable and non-charitable tools to reduce taxes, increase lifetime income, enhance wealth transfers and/or augment charitable giving potential.

Tim enjoys supporting a variety of charities as a charitable consultant and board member. He has served on the national boards of Christian Legal Society, Faith and Work Life, and various other organizations.

Since 2003, Tim has served as the president of the Registered Investment Advisory firm at Voorhees Family Office Services.com. In addition, Tim is the managing partner of the tax law firm described at TaxWiseLaw.com. Tim maintains an active law license in Maryland.

The legal and RIA firms operated by Tim coordinate closely with the insurance brokerage general agency (“BGA”) operated by Tim’s wife, Darci. This BGA has generated millions of annual insurance production while helping tax attorneys and portfolio managers appreciate new and effective ways to use insurance strategies when optimizing plans for clients.

Tim’s software company, Family Office Technologies, Inc. maintains a broad array of web-based software modules used by financial and legal professionals nationwide for developing tax planning illustrations. The vBlueprint.com software illustrates how planning instruments might effectively help family or business leaders more effectively harmonize plans with dreams and desires. Since 1996, the affiliated service bureau has helped advisers implement advanced portfolio and estate design strategies.

Tim has led teams that have developed hundreds of Family Wealth Blueprints® for high net worth clients. These comprehensive wealth blueprints include year-by-year balance sheet and cash flow numbers. The plans use graphics, text, and numbers to show how a family can blend an optimal mix of planning instruments to optimize estate plans and portfolios.

Tim co-teaches a two-day Zero-Tax Institute for advisers interested in learning how to integrate the most effective zero tax planning tools into financial and estate plans. He regularly speaks at national conferences and contributes to a variety of leading industry publications. Tim explains how to use tools for the tax-efficient transfer of assets, cash flow, control, management, and knowledge to the right parties at the best time.

Tim earned his Juris Doctrate at Southern Methodist University with a concentration in Corporate & Estate Planning Law. He also earned an MBA at Arizona State University with a specialization in Finance & Accounting. At ASU, Tim received the Beta Gamma Sigma award given to graduate students with the highest GPAs. Tim’s BA in Economics is from Macalester College, where he received National Merit and public speaking scholarships. Tim completed his Baccalaureate education at Colombo Britanico in Cali, Colombia, South America.
