A Private Annuity Trust is a non-charitable alternative to a CRT that allows for tax-deferred asset sales. The deferred private annuity can allow for substantial tax-free compounding of money that otherwise would have been paid in taxes. The bottom line benefits can be much better than those on a CRT, but planners must guard against several significant tax challenges related to the design of a private annuity.
